Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the EX era.
Hidden Legends is an expansion from the EX era of the English-language Pokémon TCG, released on June 1, 2004 under the set code HL. It holds 101 official cards plus 1 secret card, and the card list is headlined by a run of ex Pokémon led by Groudon ex, Ninetales ex and Registeel ex. The set leans on Water, Grass, Fighting and Colorless Pokémon, and it prints several evolution lines in more than one version, with Beldum and Metang each appearing three times and Baltoy, Chinchou and Claydol twice.
Hidden Legends has a plain rarity ladder of commons, uncommons, rares and holo rares, so the chase sits in the ex Pokémon, all of which are listed as Rare. Groudon ex is the most valuable card, followed by Ninetales ex, Registeel ex and Kyogre ex, with Regirock ex close behind. Hikaru Koike illustrated Groudon ex and Kyogre ex, while Mitsuhiro Arita drew Registeel ex and Regirock ex. The single secret card sits above the printed 101. The top five cards hold 47 percent of the set's total card value, so a meaningful share of its worth rests on a few ex cards.
Hidden Legends was released June 1, 2004.
Hidden Legends has 102 cards.
Hidden Legends is part of the EX era.
As of October 2026, Hidden Legends ranks 14th by total card value among the 16 comparable EX sets, at about 0.5 times the era median, and 43rd across the 130 comparable sets in the game. Its most valuable card ranks 16th in the era, though trading volume places it 7th. At 101 printed cards it is about the same size as the era median of 107. It followed Team Magma vs Team Aqua, which holds more total value, and came before FireRed & LeafGreen, which also holds more. Most of its cards first appeared in the Japanese set Undone Seal, released January 16, 2004.

A complete Hidden Legends run covers 102 catalog printings, and all 102 are priced. Because the top five cards carry 47 percent of the set's total card value, the cost of finishing the set is driven by the ex rares, while the commons, uncommons and non-ex holos make up the rest of the card list. Sealed product for the set includes 5 items: decks, a booster box, a booster pack and a display.
