Groudon ex, Regice ex and Registeel ex headline Hidden Legends, an expansion in the EX era of the English-language Pokémon TCG. It released on June 1, 2004, under the set code HL, and runs to 101 official cards plus 1 secret card, 102 printings in all. The set leans on Water, Grass, Fighting and Colorless Pokémon, and it gives several versions to the Beldum line, with Beldum and Metang each printed three times, alongside doubles of Baltoy, Chinchou and Claydol. Its top end is built from ex cards of the Hoenn region's biggest Pokémon.
Hidden Legends tops out at Holo Rare, and its most valuable cards sit in the Rare tier as ex cards. One secret card is numbered above the printed 101. Groudon ex leads the set, illustrated by Hikaru Koike, followed by Regice ex and Registeel ex, both drawn by Mitsuhiro Arita, with Ninetales ex and Kyogre ex next. The top five cards hold 46 percent of the set's total card value, so value is spread more evenly than in many sets. Arita also illustrated the most cards in the set, 10 of the 102 printings.

It followed Team Magma vs Team Aqua, which holds more total value, and came before FireRed & LeafGreen, which also holds more. Its cards first appeared in the Japanese set Undone Seal, released January 16, 2004, which shares 78 cards with it.

A full Hidden Legends run is 102 printings, and all 102 are priced, so the set can be tracked card by card. Because the top five cards carry 46 percent of total value, the cost of finishing the set depends on those few ex cards, while the commons, uncommons and rares around them are comparatively modest. The set also has sealed product, five items in all, including decks, a booster box, a booster pack and a display.
