Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the Diamond & Pearl era.
Great Encounters was released on February 1, 2008, as an expansion in the Diamond & Pearl era of the English-language Pokémon TCG, carrying the set code GE. The card list runs to 106 cards, and Darkrai, Cresselia, Dialga and Palkia are the names it prints in more than one version, which marks the legendary Pokémon of the Sinnoh region as its focus. The cards lean on Water, Colorless, Grass and Psychic types, and Darkrai tops the most valuable cards list.
Great Encounters keeps its chase simple. The pull ladder climbs from commons and uncommons through rares and Rare Holo cards to just 4 Rare Holo LV.X cards, and there are no secret cards numbered past the printed 106. The LV.X tier holds the headline cards: Darkrai, illustrated by Shizurow, leads the set, followed by Dialga and Palkia, both by Ryo Ueda, and then the Rare Holo Rotom by Daisuke Ito. The top five cards alone hold 62 percent of the set's total card value, so most of the worth sits in a few pulls.
