Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the Sun & Moon era.
Forbidden Light reached English-language Pokémon TCG shelves on May 4, 2018, as an expansion in the Sun & Moon era and series, carrying the set code FLI. It lists 131 official cards, with 15 secret cards numbered above that count, for 146 printings in all. The set is built around GX cards, and several of them appear in more than one version: Dialga GX, Greninja GX, Naganadel GX, Palkia GX and Ultra Necrozma GX each have three printings. Its Pokémon lean on the Fighting, Psychic, Water and Grass types.
The pull ladder in Forbidden Light runs from commons through uncommons and rares up to 21 Ultra Rare cards and 15 Secret Rare cards, 36 chase-tier cards in total, with the secrets numbered past the printed 131. The Secret Rare Lucario GX is the most valuable card, followed by the Secret Rare Greninja GX, Dialga GX and Xerneas GX, all illustrated by 5ban Graphics, who also drew the 5th ranked Zygarde GX. The top five cards hold 33 percent of the set's total card value, a moderate concentration, so the value sits across the whole secret rare layer rather than in one card.

It followed Ultra Prism, which holds more total value, and came before Celestial Storm, which also holds more. The cards first appeared in Japanese in SM6: Forbidden Light, released March 2, 2018.

A full Forbidden Light run is 146 printings, and all 146 are priced. Because the top five cards hold 33 percent of total value and the 15 secret rares sit above the printed count, the secret layer is where most of the cost of a complete set lies, while the commons, uncommons and rares beneath it add comparatively little. The set's sealed line numbers 19 products, spanning booster packs, blisters, premium collections, decks, displays, a booster box and an Elite Trainer Box.
