Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the Black & White era.
Dragon Vault is a small Black & White era expansion from the English-language Pokémon TCG, released on October 5, 2012 under the set code DRV. It carries 20 official cards plus one secret card above that count, for 21 printings in all. The set is built entirely around Dragon-type Pokémon, and its evolution lines show up in more than one version, with Axew, Fraxure, Dratini and Dragonair each printed twice. Its headline cards are Kyurem, Rayquaza and Dragonite, a lineup that reads as a compact showcase of the game's best-known dragons.
Dragon Vault has almost no rarity ladder. Twenty of its cards are Rares and one is a Common, so nothing in the set counts as a chase tier, and the secret card sits one slot above the printed 20. The most valuable card is a Common Kyurem illustrated by Ryo Ueda, followed by Rayquaza from 5ban Graphics, Dragonite by Mitsuhiro Arita and Latias by Hideaki Hakozaki. Value is tightly concentrated, with the top five cards holding 75 percent of the set's total card value, so a handful of names account for most of what the full run is worth.

It followed Dragons Exalted, which holds more total value, and came before Boundaries Crossed, which also holds more. Its cards first appeared in the Japanese set Dragon Selection, released January 27, 2012.

The full Dragon Vault card list runs to 21 printings, and all 21 are priced, so a complete set is easy to track. Because three-quarters of the set's value sits in five cards, the cost of finishing it depends mostly on those few, while the remaining cards add comparatively little. Sealed product is limited to two items, a booster pack and a blister, which fits a set this size.
