Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the EX era.
Crystal Guardians is an expansion in the EX series of the English-language Pokémon TCG, with a release date of August 30, 2006 and the set code CG. It runs to 100 cards, with nothing numbered above the printed count. The card list is built around Water, Grass, Fighting and Psychic Pokémon, and its Alakazam ☆, Charizard δ and Celebi ☆ headline the most valuable cards. Several Pokémon appear in more than one version, among them Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Mudkip, Combusken and Marshtomp, which gives Crystal Guardians a strong starter-line identity within the EX era.
Crystal Guardians has a plain rarity structure: 29 commons, 30 uncommons and 41 rares, with no separate chase tier and no secret cards beyond the printed 100. The value sits in the rares. Alakazam ☆ leads, followed by Charizard δ, Celebi ☆, Kyogre ex and Blastoise δ. Masakazu Fukuda illustrated three of those top five, and he shares the lead in card count with Mitsuhiro Arita at eight each. Value is tightly concentrated, because the top five cards alone hold 66 percent of the set's total card value.

A full run of Crystal Guardians means 100 printings, and all 100 are priced, so the market covers the complete card list. Because two-thirds of the set's value rides on five cards, the cost of a complete set depends mostly on those few rares, while the commons and uncommons make up the bulk of the checklist at little weight. The sealed line is small, made up of a booster box and a booster pack, which suits collectors who want to open the set rather than buy it single by single.
