Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the Diamond & Pearl era.
Platinum is a 127-card expansion in the Platinum series of the Diamond & Pearl era of the English-language Pokémon TCG, with six secret cards numbered above that count, for 133 printings in all. The release date was February 11, 2009, and the set code is PL. The set is built around Giratina, which appears in four versions, along with several versions of Dialga and Shaymin, and its headline card is Dialga G LV.X. Its Pokémon lean on Grass, Psychic, Colorless and Water types.
Platinum's rarities run from commons and uncommons through rares and holo rares up to six Rare Holo LV.X cards, the chase tier, and the secret cards sit above the printed 127. Dialga G LV.X leads the card list, followed by Vulpix, the Holo Rare Giratina, Lotad and Giratina LV.X. Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated both of the top two, and Kouki Saitou and Kagemaru Himeno are close behind him in total cards drawn. The top five cards hold 43 percent of the set's total card value, so the value is spread more evenly than in many sets.
