Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the WOTC era.
Neo Discovery is an expansion from the WOTC era's Neo series, released on June 1, 2001 under set code N2. It is compact, with an official count of 75 cards and the same 75 catalog printings, so there are no secret cards above the printed number. The set leans on Psychic, Grass, Colorless and Fighting Pokémon. Its identity shows in the names it prints more than once: Houndour appears three times, while Espeon, Forretress, Hitmontop and Houndoom each appear twice. Umbreon heads the most valuable cards, which fits a set built around Johto's evolutions.
The Neo Discovery card list climbs a short ladder of Common, Uncommon and Rare, and the Rare tier is where the chase lives, with 17 chase-tier cards among its 36 Rares. The most valuable cards are all Rares: two different Umbreon cards sit first and second, followed by Houndour, Wobbuffet and Houndoom. Kimiya Masago illustrates the top Umbreon, and the second is by Naoyo Kimura. The top five cards hold 35 percent of the set's total card value, so value is spread across the Rare tier more than stacked on a few pulls.
Neo Discovery was released June 1, 2001.

As of October 2026, Neo Discovery ranks 9th by total card value among the 16 comparable WOTC sets and 32nd across the whole game, with a master set value about equal to the era median. At 75 printed cards it is smaller than the era median of 108. Its single most valuable card ranks 14th in the era, and it ranks 13th in trading activity. It followed Neo Genesis, which holds more total value, and came before Southern Islands, which holds less. Its cards first appeared in the Japanese set Crossing the Ruins..., released July 7, 2000, with 45 shared cards.

A complete Neo Discovery run is 75 catalog printings, and all 75 are priced. Because the top five cards carry only 35 percent of total card value, the cost of finishing the set is shaped by the depth of the Rare tier as well as the two Umbreon cards at the top. The sealed line has 5 products, covering booster packs, decks and a blister, which gives a sense of how the set originally reached shelves.
