Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the XY era.
Evolutions arrived on November 2, 2016 as an expansion in the XY era, closing out the series ahead of Sun & Moon. Its set code is EVO, and it carries 108 official cards with 5 secret cards above that count, 113 printings in all. It is a reworking of the original Base Set, built around the Pokémon of that first generation, and it leans on Water, Colorless, Fire and Psychic types. Several names appear in more than one version, among them Brock's Grit, Dragonite EX, M Blastoise EX, M Charizard EX and M Pidgeot EX, while M Charizard EX leads the card list for value.
The Evolutions chase cards sit in two tiers: 25 Ultra Rares and 5 Secret Rares, the secrets numbered past the printed 108. M Charizard EX in Ultra Rare form is the most valuable card, illustrated by 5ban Graphics, followed by the Rare Charizard from Mitsuhiro Arita, then M Blastoise EX, Dragonite EX and Mewtwo EX, the last two by Ryo Ueda. A second M Charizard EX printing ranks 6th. The top five cards hold 49 percent of the set's total card value, so roughly half the worth of a full run rests on a handful of Mega and EX cards.
Evolutions was released November 2, 2016.

As of October 2026, Evolutions ranks 13th by total card value among the 14 comparable XY sets, about 0.6 times the era median, and its top card also ranks 13th in the era. Across the whole game it sits 101st of 130. Its 108 official cards match the era median of 113 in scale. Trading activity tells a different story, ranking 1st among its era peers. It follows Steam Siege and precedes Sun & Moon, and both hold lower total value. English collectors first saw 85 of these cards in the Japanese CP6: Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary, released September 16, 2016.

A complete Evolutions run is 113 printings, and all 113 are priced. Because the top five cards carry 49 percent of the set's value, the cost of finishing the card list is dominated by the Charizard, Blastoise and other Ultra Rare entries, while the commons, uncommons and regular rares remain a small share. The sealed line is broad at 34 products, spanning Elite Trainer Boxes, Premium Collections, blisters, decks, booster packs, a booster box and a booster case, alongside many other sealed items.
