Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the XY era.
Evolutions arrived on November 2, 2016, as an expansion in the XY era and the English-language Pokémon TCG's 20th anniversary release, carrying the set code EVO. It lists 108 official cards plus 5 secret cards, 113 printings in all. The set is built on reprints of first-generation Pokémon, and several names appear twice across the card list, among them M Charizard EX, M Blastoise EX, Dragonite EX, M Pidgeot EX and the trainer Brock's Grit. Water, Colorless, Fire and Psychic are the types it leans on most, with M Charizard EX and the plain Charizard at the head of its most valuable cards.
The Evolutions pull ladder runs from commons and uncommons through rares to 25 Ultra Rares, with 5 Secret Rares numbered above the printed 108, for 30 chase-tier cards in all. M Charizard EX in Ultra Rare form is the most valuable card, followed by the standard Charizard at Rare, M Blastoise EX, Dragonite EX and Mewtwo EX. The art credits are mixed: 5ban Graphics drew several of the top Mega cards, Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated the Charizard, and Ryo Ueda the Dragonite and Mewtwo. The top five cards hold 49 percent of the set's total card value, so about half the worth of a complete card list sits in a handful of cards.
Evolutions was released November 2, 2016.

As of October 2026, Evolutions ranks 13th by total card value among the 14 comparable XY sets and 106th across the 145 sets in the game, at about 0.6 times the era median. Its single most valuable card also ranks 13th in the era, yet it leads the era in trading activity, so interest is far out of proportion to value. At 108 official cards it sits about level with the era median of 113. It followed Steam Siege and came before Sun & Moon, and both of those hold less total value. Its cards first appeared in the Japanese CP6: Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary, released September 16, 2016, with 85 shared cards.

The Evolutions card list runs to 113 printings, and all 113 are priced, so a complete run can be tracked end to end. Because about half the set's value sits in its top five cards, the cost of finishing it is driven by those few Charizard, Blastoise, Dragonite and Mewtwo cards while the commons, uncommons and rares fill in cheaply by comparison. Evolutions also has a deep sealed line of 34 products, including a booster box, a booster case, Elite Trainer Boxes, Premium Collections, decks, blisters and booster packs.
