Emerald is an expansion in the EX era of the English-language Pokémon TCG, released on May 9, 2005 under the set code EM. It carries 106 official cards plus one secret card, for 107 printings in all, which sits right at the era median for size. Rather than a gimmick, the set leans on a mix of Colorless, Water, Fighting and Grass Pokémon, and its headline cards are the Pokémon-ex of the Hoenn region, with Milotic ex, Regice ex and Altaria ex all among the cards that matter most. Electrike, Feebas, Groudon, Grumpig and Kyogre each appear in two versions.
The pull ladder in Emerald is a short one: Common, Uncommon and Rare, with no separate chase tier, and one secret card numbered above the printed 106. The most valuable cards are all Rares. Milotic ex leads, illustrated by Ryo Ueda, followed by Rayquaza from Kouki Saitou, Regice ex from Hikaru Koike and Altaria ex, also by Ryo Ueda, with Deoxys ex from Mitsuhiro Arita close behind. Value is concentrated, as the top five cards hold 60 percent of the set's total card value, so the rest of the card list is comparatively inexpensive next to those few Pokémon-ex.
As of October 2026, Emerald ranks 13th by total card value among the 16 comparable EX sets and 38th across all 130 sets in the game, with a master set worth about 0.7 times the era median. Its single most valuable card ranks 10th in the era, and it ranks 16th for trading activity. At 106 printed cards it is about the same size as the era median of 107. It followed Deoxys, which holds more total value, and came before Unseen Forces, which also holds more, so Emerald sits as the lighter-valued stretch between two stronger neighbours.

A complete Emerald run is 107 printings, and all 107 are priced, so the full card list can be tracked without gaps. Because the top five cards carry 60 percent of the set's value, the cost of finishing it is driven by a handful of Pokémon-ex and Rares rather than spread evenly, and the remaining Commons and Uncommons are the easier part of the checklist. Sealed product for Emerald runs to four items: a booster box, a booster pack and two decks, which covers the main ways the set was released.
