Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the EX era.
Delta Species is an expansion from the EX era of the English-language Pokémon TCG, released on October 31, 2005 and carrying the set code DS. It follows Unseen Forces and runs to 113 official cards plus 1 secret card above that count. What defines it is the delta species mechanic: Pokémon printed with a δ and a different type from their usual one, such as Bagon δ, Shelgon δ, Dratini δ and Dragonair δ, each appearing in two versions. Ditto is printed ten times, and the set leans on Metal, Lightning, Fire and Water Pokémon, with Star cards from Groudon, Kyogre and Metagross topping its card list.
The rarity ladder in Delta Species is plain: 34 commons, 35 uncommons and 45 rares, with the single secret card numbered past the printed 113. Value sits almost entirely in the Pokémon Star cards. Groudon Star leads the set, followed by Kyogre Star and Metagross Star, all illustrated by Masakazu Fukuda, and Ryo Ueda's Mewtwo δ and Umbreon δ complete the top five. Those five cards hold 56 percent of the set's total card value, so most of what makes the most valuable cards here worth chasing is concentrated in a small group of rares.
Delta Species was released October 31, 2005.
Delta Species has 114 cards.
Delta Species is part of the EX era.
As of October 2026, Delta Species holds the 4th highest total card value of the 16 comparable EX sets, about 2 times the era median, and ranks 9th across the whole game's 130 comparable sets. Its single most valuable card ranks 6th in the era, while it sits 3rd for trading activity. At 113 printed cards it runs about the same size as the era median of 107. It followed Unseen Forces, which holds more total value, and came before Legend Maker, which holds less. Its cards first appeared in Japan in Holon Research Tower, released October 28, 2005, with 86 shared cards.

A full run of Delta Species is 114 catalog printings, and all 114 are priced. Because the Star cards and a few delta rares carry so much of the total, the cost of a complete set is driven mainly by that short list, while the commons and uncommons make up most of the card count with little weight in value. The sealed line lists four products: a booster box, a booster pack and two decks.
