Darkness Ablaze (set code DAA) is a Sword & Shield expansion in the English-language Pokémon TCG, released on August 14, 2020. It carries 189 official cards, with 12 secret rares numbered above that count, for 201 catalog printings in all. The set leans on Colorless, Darkness, Grass and Water Pokémon, and several of its names appear in more than one version: Pokémon Breeder's Nurturing and Rose each have three printings, while Butterfree V and Butterfree VMAX each show up twice. Its headline cards are the VMAX Pokémon, led by Charizard VMAX and Butterfree VMAX.
Darkness Ablaze runs from commons and uncommons up through holo rares to 46 chase-tier cards: Holo Rare V, Ultra Rare, Holo Rare VMAX and 12 Secret Rares that sit past the printed 189. Charizard VMAX at Holo Rare VMAX is the most valuable card, illustrated by aky CG Works, followed by Butterfree VMAX, Salamence VMAX and Scizor VMAX, all Secret Rares. 5ban Graphics illustrated most of the secret VMAX cards and has the most cards in the set overall with 20. The top five cards hold 38 percent of the set's total card value, a fairly spread-out profile for a set built around VMAX chase cards.
As of October 2026, Darkness Ablaze ranks 14th by total card value among the 17 comparable Sword & Shield sets, at about 0.5 times the era median, and 125th across the whole game's 130 comparable sets. Its single most valuable card ranks 15th in the era, and it sits 14th for trading activity. At 189 printed cards it is about the same size as the era median of 189. It followed Rebel Clash and came before Champion's Path, and both of those hold more total value. Its cards first appeared in Japan in S3: Infinity Zone and S2a: Explosive Walker, released in June and April of 2020.
