Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the Sword & Shield era.
Darkness Ablaze is an English-language Pokémon TCG expansion from the Sword & Shield era, released on August 14, 2020 under the set code DAA. It carries 189 official cards plus 12 secret cards above that count, 201 printings in all. The set leans on Colorless, Darkness, Grass and Water Pokémon, and it gives several cards more than one version: Pokémon Breeder's Nurturing and Rose each appear three times, while Big Parasol, Butterfree V and Butterfree VMAX each appear twice. Its headline cards are the VMAX Pokémon, led by Charizard VMAX and Butterfree VMAX.
The Darkness Ablaze pull ladder runs from commons, uncommons and rares up through holo rares to 46 chase-tier cards, made up of Holo Rare V, Ultra Rare, Holo Rare VMAX and Secret Rare. The 12 secret rares are numbered past the printed 189. Charizard VMAX, illustrated by aky CG Works, is the most valuable card in the set, followed by the Secret Rare Butterfree VMAX, then Salamence VMAX and Scizor VMAX, both illustrated by 5ban Graphics. The top five cards hold 38 percent of the set's total card value, a moderate concentration, so the value is spread beyond a handful of pulls.
