Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the EX era.
Crystal Guardians reached shelves on August 30, 2006, as an expansion in the EX series of the English-language Pokémon TCG, code CG. It holds 100 cards, with 100 printings in the catalog. The set leans on Water, Grass, Fighting and Psychic Pokémon, and it prints several starter lines in more than one version: Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Mudkip, Combusken and Marshtomp each appear twice. Its headline cards are the δ and ☆ variants, led by Charizard δ, Alakazam ☆ and Celebi ☆, which give the card list its character within the EX era.
Crystal Guardians has a plain rarity ladder of commons, uncommons and 41 rares, with no secret cards above the printed 100, so every chase card sits at the top of the same numbering. The most valuable cards are Charizard δ, illustrated by Kouki Saitou, then Alakazam ☆ and Celebi ☆, both by Masakazu Fukuda, followed by Kyogre ex and Blastoise δ. All of them are rares. The top five cards alone hold 63 percent of the set's total card value, so the value of the whole card list rests on a small group of Crystal Guardians chase cards.

Completing Crystal Guardians means finding all 100 catalog printings, and all 100 are priced. Because 63 percent of the set's card value sits in its top five cards, the cost of a complete set is driven by a few rare δ, ☆ and ex cards, while the rest of the run is far lighter. Starters like Bulbasaur and Mudkip appear in two versions, so check which printing a list refers to. Sealed product for the set is a small line: a booster box and a booster pack.
