Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the WOTC era.
Rocket's Mewtwo and Rocket's Hitmonchan headline Best of game, a promo collection from the WOTC era of the English-language Pokémon TCG, filed under the E-Card series. The release date was December 1, 2002, and the card list is small: 9 cards, all of them printed, with no secret cards above the count. The set code does not carry any extra layers, so the whole run is simply those 9 promotional cards. Lightning is the only Pokémon type it leans on, and the roster mixes Team Rocket and Dark Pokémon with a trainer, which gives this promotional run an unusually varied top end for its size.
Best of game is a promotional run, so there is no pull ladder of commons and holos to climb; the interest sits in a short list of named cards. Rocket's Mewtwo is the most valuable card, followed by Rocket's Hitmonchan, Dark Venusaur, Dark Ivysaur and Electabuzz. Shin-ichi Yoshida illustrated three of the cards, including the top-ranked Rocket's Mewtwo and both Dark starters, while Ken Sugimori drew four across the set, including Rocket's Hitmonchan and Electabuzz. With only 9 cards in total, the most valuable cards are effectively the set, and the ordering at the top matters more than any rarity tier.
As of October 2026, Best of game is a small promotional run, and it should be read against the promo sets around it rather than against full expansions. It followed Jumbo cards, a 160-card release from February 1, 2000 whose top card is Dark Blastoise, and it came before Nintendo Black Star Promos, a 40-card release from October 1, 2003 whose top card is Mudkip. At 9 cards it is far smaller than both neighbours. The comparison figures that would place its total value against either one are not available, so the clearest contrast between the three is size and release order.

Completing Best of game means finding 9 printings, and all 9 are priced. Because the run is so short, the cost of finishing it is driven almost entirely by the few cards at the top, led by Rocket's Mewtwo and Rocket's Hitmonchan, while the lower-ranked trainer and Pokémon cards such as Professor Elm and Hitmonchan sit further down the order. The compact checklist makes the full card list easy to track, and a collector can see at a glance which of the 9 are still missing.
