Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the WOTC era.
Aquapolis arrived on January 15, 2003 as an expansion in the E-Card series of the WOTC era, carrying the set code AQ in the English-language Pokémon TCG. It prints 147 official cards, with 39 secret cards numbered above that count, for 186 printings in all. Several Pokémon appear in three versions each, including Exeggutor, Houndoom, Kingdra, Lanturn and Nidoking, which gives the card list an unusual amount of repetition. The headline cards are Houndoom, Nidoking and Tyranitar, and the set leans on Grass, Water, Colorless and Fighting types.
Aquapolis builds its pull ladder from commons and uncommons up through 51 rares and 32 holo rares, 35 chase-tier cards in total, with the secret cards sitting above the printed 147. Houndoom in Holo Rare leads the set, illustrated by Hajime Kusajima, who also has the most cards in the set at 13. Nidoking in Rare is next, then the Holo Rares Tyranitar and Slowking, with Suicune close behind. The top five cards hold 30 percent of the set's total card value, a fairly spread-out profile, so value runs deeper through the set than a few headline pulls.

A complete Aquapolis run covers 186 printings, and all 186 are priced. Because the top five cards hold only 30 percent of total card value, finishing the set means paying meaningfully for a broad band of holos and rares, not just a few chase cards. The sealed line on the page is limited to the booster pack, so sealed product for Aquapolis is a single-pack affair.
