Hometown Comics Greenfield

Hometown Comics Greenfield is a locally owned comics, gaming and pop culture shop on North State Street in Greenfield, Indiana. It carries Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! alongside a broad comics and tabletop stock, and it is set up for people who want to play on site: two large game rooms with plenty of seating. It suits families, tabletop regulars and cosplayers as much as card players.

What's on the shelves

Trading card games are one part of a wide shop. Packs, boxes and accessories for trading card games are stocked, along with boxes and storage for organizing a collection. Beyond cards, the shelves include comics from multiple publishers, manga, novels, board games, dice, action figures and other figurines, toys, stationery and jewelry. Miniature gamers will find Games Workshop products, and the store sells branded accessories with its own name on them.

Cosplay is a real part of the stock. The store carries items for building costumes, including costumes, Mehron make-up and a range of accessories.

Games and organized play

The store is an Official Konami Tournament Store, a Wizards of the Coast Advanced Store and a Pokémon League location. Play times are offered for Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Warhammer 40K and HeroClix, as well as other card and board games. Staff run the Pokémon League and Club sessions and a youth Dungeons & Dragons game, and Magic games are run in the shop as well.

The two game rooms are the draw for anyone who wants to play rather than just buy. Seating is generous, and the setup suits both casual tables and organized events.

Workshops and monthly events

A Paint & Take session for painting miniatures runs on the third Friday of each month, and staff also teach workshops on board games and miniature painting. The owners work conventions and local panels, which fits the store's habit of treating the shop itself as something close to a convention floor.

Friday is the late night, with doors open an hour past the rest of the week, and Sunday closes earliest.

History

The store has served the Greenfield community since 2009 and has moved to a newer location on North State Street since then. It is owned and run locally, and its owners are active with the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and the Game Manufacturers Association.
