Hometown Comics and Games

Hometown Comics and Games is a locally owned comics, gaming and pop culture shop on North State Street in Greenfield, Indiana. It has served the town since 2009 and carries trading card games, comics, manga, board games and miniatures supplies under one roof. Two large game rooms with plenty of seating make it a place to play as well as shop, and it suits Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! players, Magic and Warhammer 40K regulars, and anyone who wants a comic shop and a card shop in the same stop.

What's on the shelves

Trading card games sit alongside the rest of a full comic shop: comics, manga, books, anime figures, board games, paints and accessories. Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! are the card games the store is set up around, and the shelves cover a wide spread beyond them.

The store also sells cosplay materials, which is less common in a game shop. It stocks costumes, Mehron make-up and a range of accessories for building a costume from scratch.

Organized play and events

The store is a Pokémon League location, an Official Konami Tournament Store and a Wizards of the Coast Advanced Store, so players of Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Magic can all find sanctioned play here. Open play times run for Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Warhammer 40K and HeroClix, as well as other card and board games. Staff also teach workshops.

A monthly Paint & Takes session runs on the third Friday of the month, where staff teach board games and how to paint miniatures. It is the natural entry point for newcomers to the miniatures side of the hobby.

Hours

Saturday is a closed day, which is unusual for a game store, so weekend visits mean planning around Sunday.

History and community

Founded in 2009, the store has been part of Greenfield for well over a decade and has since moved into a newer location at 1506 N State St. Staff are regulars at local conventions, running a booth or panels, and the owners work with community and business groups including the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce. The store also connects with the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and the Game Manufacturers Association.
