Where the value of the Kalos Starter Set master set sits tells more than its size, but the size is modest: 48 slots against 39 cards, an average of 1.2 slots per card. Normal prints fill 39 of those slots and holos fill 9. Laid out nine to a side, the whole master set checklist fits on 3 double-sided binder pages, a compact project for an XY era release from the English-language Pokémon TCG, dated November 8, 2013.
The Kalos Starter Set master set comes down to two families: 39 normal prints, one for every card, and 9 holo slots on top. That gives the set a simple structure with no reverse holo layer and no stamped or edition-specific prints. A holo here is a foil-treated version of a card that also exists in its normal finish, so those nine slots are the only places where a single card needs two copies to count as complete.
| Variant family | Slots | Priced | Share of value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | 39 | 39 | 80% |
| Holo | 9 | 9 | 20% |
Value in the Kalos Starter Set master set is heavily concentrated. As of October 24, 2026, 48 of 48 slots carry a price, and the ten most valuable slots hold 76 percent of the total, while the lower-value half of the priced slots together hold only 8 percent. Normal prints account for 77 percent of the master set cost and holos for 23 percent. Condition matters a great deal: an LP and up total sits 46 percent below the Near Mint total, and an MP and up total sits 61 percent below it.

A handful of slots decide how hard this master set is to finish. Snorlax in its normal print is the highest-value slot, followed by the Greninja holo, then the normal prints of Miltank, Bidoof and Skitty. Together these five slots hold 61 percent of the master set's total value. The Greninja holo is the one that catches people out, since it is a variant rather than the card's main print, and a collector who owns the normal Greninja still has that slot open.
At 48 slots, the Kalos Starter Set master set is about 1.5 times the era median of 31 slots, yet it ranks 1st by master set value among the 9 comparable sets of its XY era. The neighboring starter kits are smaller and hold less value: BW trainer Kit (Zoroark) runs to 30 slots and XY trainer Kit (Noivern) to 31, and the master sets of both hold lower total value. Among its closest relatives, this is the larger and higher-value job.

A Kalos Starter Set master set is one copy of every card AND every variant in the set — the 39 cards on this page, with their Normal, Reverse Holo and Holo prints each listed and priced on their own. Sign in and the checklist tracks what you own, in step with the Cardboard Alpha app.
The large NM-only figure is a complete catalog estimate when every printing has current NM pricing. LP, MP, HP, and DMG “and up” totals below it use the requested condition or a better available condition. These are summed reference prices, not a quote from one seller; a dash means the current market does not cover every printing yet.
“LP and up” means lightly played or better: the total uses LP when available, then NM as the better-condition fallback. The MP, HP, and DMG tiers follow the same pattern.
