Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the WOTC era.
Aquapolis came out on January 15, 2003, as an expansion in the WOTC era's E-Card series, and its set code is AQ. It prints 147 official cards with 39 secrets numbered above that count, which brings the full card list to 186 printings. The set leans on Grass, Water, Colorless and Fighting Pokémon, and several names appear in three versions each, including Exeggutor, Houndoom, Kingdra, Lanturn and Nidoking. Its headline cards are Houndoom, Umbreon, Slowking and Suicune, all holographic rares.
Aquapolis builds its pull ladder from commons and uncommons up through rares and holo rares, with 35 chase-tier cards and the secret cards numbered past the printed 147. Houndoom in Holo Rare leads the most valuable cards, illustrated by Hajime Kusajima, followed by Umbreon, Slowking and Suicune, all Holo Rares as well, with Lugia the first non-holo rare in the top five. The top five cards together hold 26 percent of the set's total card value, a fairly even spread for a set of this age, so the value is not locked into a single pull.
Aquapolis was released January 15, 2003.

As of October 2026, Aquapolis holds the 3rd highest total card value of the 16 comparable WOTC sets, about 5.2 times the era median, and ranks 4th across all 130 sets in the game. Its single most valuable card ranks 3rd in the era and its trading activity ranks 4th. At 147 official cards it runs larger than the era median of 108. It followed Expedition Base Set, which holds less total value, and came before Skyridge, which holds more. English collectors met 48 of its cards first in the Japanese set The Town on No Map, released March 8, 2002.

A complete Aquapolis run covers 186 printings, and all 186 are priced, so there are no blind spots when budgeting a full set. Because the top five cards carry only 26 percent of total card value, the cost of completion is spread across many mid-tier holos and rares rather than hanging on one chase card. Sealed product for the set is limited to the booster pack.
