Play It Today Games

Play It Today Games is a board game and card game store at 3186 Dixie Hwy in Erlanger, Kentucky, built around a simple idea: you can take almost any game off the shelf and play it before deciding whether to buy it. It suits board game shoppers who want to try a game before committing, Magic: The Gathering players looking for a Friday night Commander table, and anyone who wants a place to play without having to buy anything.

Try before you buy

The store's core offer is a play library. For $5 per person, almost any game on the shelf can be taken to a table and played, with no time limit. Even sealed copies of newly released games are available to play. Expansions and legacy games are excluded.

Everything in the library is also for sale, and a game bought after playing comes $5 off the price. That makes the $5 play fee a credit toward the purchase rather than a cost.

What's on the shelves

The store carries board games, card games and Dungeons & Dragons. Magic: The Gathering is stocked with booster packs and accessories, and the Magic selection grows as the store takes requests for items it does not yet carry. The One Piece Card Game is carried too. Star Wars: Unlimited, One Piece and D&D each have a growing player community around the store.

Weekly play

The Friday night is casual Commander, and the start time is approximate, so arriving a little after 6 PM is normal.

Memberships

Memberships come in three tiers, starting at $15. Members play the library for free and receive guest passes so friends can play for free as well. Members can also sell games on consignment through the store.

Six-month and longer memberships add a 5% discount on all purchases and a take-home option: games can go home for $5 for 5 days. Take-home rentals require signing terms and conditions in the store. Prices and policies can change as the store grows, so the front desk is the place to confirm current details.

Hours and getting there

The store is in Silverlake Plaza, next to Garzelli's and 1st Wok and to the left of Great Clips.
