S4a: Shiny Star V is part of the Sword & Shield era.
Nearly every card in S4a: Shiny Star V counts as a chase card, led by 104 Shiny Rares and 23 Shiny Secret Rares, with Double Rare, Super Rare, Triple Rare, Ultra Rare and Amazing Rare cards filling out the ladder. The most valuable cards are the Shiny Secret Rare Charizard VMAX, then Charizard V, followed by the Super Rare Supporters Marnie and Skyla and a Gengar in fifth place. The top five cards hold 43 percent of the set's total card value, so the value is concentrated at the top but less sharply than in many sets.

Its single most valuable card ranks 11th in the era, while trading activity ranks 5th. It followed S4: Amazing Volt Tackle, which holds less total value, and came before S5I: Single Strike Master, which also holds less. Its cards reached English in Shining Fates Shiny Vault, which shares 241 cards with it and came 2 months later.

Completing the full run means tracking down all 330 catalog printings, of which 328 are priced. Because the Charizard cards carry a large part of the value, the cost of a complete set depends heavily on those few pulls, while the large Shiny Rare base is the bulk of the checklist. Sealed product for the set is a booster box and a booster pack, the two formats collectors use to chase the shiny cards.
