Underdog Collectibles

Underdog Collectibles is a sports card shop at 4452 Western Ave in Knoxville, Tennessee, with a second life as an online live-break operation. The store buys cards and collectibles, hosts trade nights and autograph events, and runs group card breaks that stream every week on its own video channel. It suits collectors who want a neighborhood shop for sports cards and also like the group-break format.

What the store carries

Sports cards are the focus. The shop sells unopened boxes and live packs alongside its break inventory, and a trading card game section sits next to the sports side of the catalog. Orders can be paid for with PayPal or Venmo.

Live breaks

Group breaks are the store's signature format. Collectors buy a spot in a break, and the cards are opened live on the store's weekly stream, which doubles as a place for product news and hits the staff want to show off. Break alerts go out by email so buyers can catch upcoming sessions. Shipping is a flat $4.99, and orders from breaks held on the same day are combined into one shipment.

Events

Underdog Collectibles is Knoxville's neighborhood card shop, and it runs trade nights, card breaks and autograph events. No fixed weekly schedule is set, so the events come as announced rather than on a standing night. The owners also run a trading group for buying, selling and swapping among collectors.

Selling to the store

The store is always buying. Sellers send pictures or video of what they have, with a price, by email, and the store responds with an offer. That makes it practical to start a sale from home before bringing anything in.

History

Underdog Collectibles has been a sports card retailer and card show host since at least 2019, when it began publishing a weekly hobby column called The Underblog. The posts cover buy, sell and hold calls on players, recaps of the National convention, and a 2020 essay on how the pandemic fed a boom in the hobby. The column reads as an economically minded take on collecting rather than a sales pitch, which fits the store's identity as a hobby-friendly retailer.
