Tyton Games

Tyton Games is a local game store at 106 E Saint Charles Rd in Villa Park, Illinois, opened in 2009. It splits its floor between a retail room of roughly 2,000 square feet and a 1,000 square foot gaming room. The mix leans toward three things: Magic: The Gathering singles, the full Games Workshop line, and a deep stock of retro video games. It suits Magic players and Warhammer painters, and anyone clearing out an old game collection.

What's on the shelves

Magic: The Gathering is the main card game. The store carries booster boxes, packs, singles and sleeves, with three full cases of premium singles plus binders and boxes that span almost every set. Disney Lorcana and Star Wars: Unlimited are also carried, with sealed product and singles for each. Role-playing games, including Dungeons & Dragons, and a range of board games round out the shelves.

Miniatures are a real strength. The entire Games Workshop line is sold at 15% off MSRP every day, covering Warhammer 40K, Horus Heresy and Age of Sigmar. Other miniatures include AD&D minis, Bolt Action, X-Wing and Song of Fire & Ice.

Retro video games

Retro games are the store's other specialty, covering systems from the NES through the Switch. Cartridge games are cleaned inside and out, and the connector pins are polished before each one is bagged in a resealable bag to keep dust off the shelf stock. Stock includes consoles, controllers, adapters, replacement parts and memory cards, plus a Bargain Bin of discounted items.

Buying and selling

The store is always buying retro video games and systems, Magic: The Gathering cards and 80s toys. Sellers can send a message to start a conversation about what they have.

Store policies

Returns are accepted for 30 days from the date of purchase. Items bought as new must be unopened to qualify, and an unopened new return carries a 10% restocking fee. A new item that turns out to be defective or broken can be exchanged for the same item, with a refund or store credit if none is in stock. Used items can be returned only for a like item, or for store credit if there is none. Bargain Bin items are sold as-is and cannot be returned.

Orders ship by USPS, and shipping is free on orders over $150.

Hours and getting there

The later Friday and Saturday closing makes those nights the natural ones for gaming.

History

The store was founded in 2009 by two friends who had known each other since third grade and reconnected that year over a shared love of nerdy hobbies. Two more people have since joined the team, and the plan is to update the store's systems to make finding games and supplies easier and cheaper, bring in new product lines and run more tournaments.
