Trilogy Comics

Trilogy Comics is a comic shop that also stocks trading card games, serving Tidewater, Virginia from a location at 5773 Princess Anne Rd in Virginia Beach. The core of the business is comics, both new releases and back issues, with a stock of Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! alongside it. It suits readers who want a reliable weekly source for new issues and collectors who like to browse cards in a comic-shop setting.

What's on the shelves

Comics are the main draw. The store carries one of the larger selections of new and back-issue comics in the Tidewater area, with new releases from publishers such as DC and Image. Beyond the comics, the shelves hold comic book action figures and statues, Wizkids Heroclix and Funko Pops.

On the card side, the store carries three games: Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh!. Rare collectibles and bargain closeouts are sold separately from the regular shelf stock.

Reserving and holding titles

Standing orders are a real part of how the shop operates, and they are worth knowing about if you read comics on a schedule.

• New comics reservation. Customers can reserve new comics through an online reservation form, so an issue is set aside before it sells out.
• Pull and hold service. A standing order for periodical titles means receiving every issue in a series. The list covers long runs of Marvel, DC and Image series. Single-issue orders go through a separate order form based on the Diamond Previews catalog.
• Manga hold service. Standing orders for manga series work the same way, with every volume in a chosen series held for the customer. All English-language manga are available to reserve, and the hold list runs to well over a hundred series.

The pull and hold service comes with a pickup expectation: orders should be collected, or sent for, at least once a month, and more often for customers holding a large number of titles. A standing order is cancelled after three months without contact from the customer, though exceptions can be arranged by notifying the store in advance and leaving a deposit.

History and other locations

Trilogy Comics operates more than one store. A second location sits at 700 E. Little Creek Rd. in Norfolk, VA 23518, and the two shops are referred to as Trilogy #1 and Trilogy #2.
