Toy Soldier Games and Comics

Toy Soldier Games and Comics is a game store at 113B Main St in Amesbury, Massachusetts, with roots going back to 1978. It leans hardest into Warhammer and miniature wargaming, but it also runs weekly Magic: The Gathering nights, carries Pokémon, and hosts a steady calendar of tournaments, prereleases and kids' programs. It suits painters, wargamers and Magic players who want a store with a long-standing regular crowd.

What's on the shelves

Miniatures are the core of the stock. The store carries Warhammer 40,000, Horus Heresy, Adeptus Titanicus, Aeronautica Imperialis, Legions Imperialis, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Warcry and Warhammer The Old World, along with Battletech, Malifaux, Marvel: Crisis Protocol and Star Wars: Armada, Legion and X-Wing. D&D miniatures and terrain sit alongside them.

For the painting side of the hobby, the store sells Games Workshop paints in the base, shade, layer, technical and Contrast ranges, plus spray cans, Army Painter paints, and Army Painter tools and accessories. Beyond miniatures, the shelves include board games, puzzles in 500, 1,000 and 2,000 piece sizes, role-playing games, disc golf, and a clearance section. Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, Pokémon and Star Wars round out the card and game side. The Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition Armageddon launch box is available to preorder for $295.

Weekly play

Both nights fall within the store's regular evening hours, which run until 9 PM on those days.

Organized play and events

Warhammer players get the fullest calendar. Warhammer 40,000 tournaments run on Saturdays with doors at 10 AM and round one at 10:30 AM. A 2,000 point event is set for September 26, 2026, and a 1,000 point event for October 24, 2026. Entry is $20, which also includes access to the Event Center on Sundays.

Warhammer The Old World has its own rhythm. Old World Gaming Day falls on the last Sunday of each month, and a Slow Grow League has been run around it: phases at 500, 1,000 and 1,500 points leading to a 2,000 point finale, with a bonus for fully painted armies and laurels for coolest army, top sportsmanship, most games played and tournament champion.

Prerelease season is busy for card players. Star Wars prereleases are scheduled for October 2 and October 6, 2026, at $40 each, with every player receiving a prerelease kit. Magic: The Gathering Reality Fracture prereleases ran on September 25, 2026 at the store and on October 1, 2026 at BareWolf Brewing, at $45 each, and both have sold out.

Dungeons & Dragons runs as a ticketed kids' program: Heledrimm Kids D&D, Chapter 8, The Thunder Arrives, is sold as a $120 season ticket or a $20 weekly ticket, and both are currently sold out.

Kids' programs

Summer Game Camp for ages 8 to 12 pairs a Pokémon session with a Dungeons & Dragons session, Monday through Thursday, June 29 through August 27, 2026. A separate Warhammer 40,000 Boot Camp for ages 10 to 14 runs Monday through Thursday from 1 to 3:30 PM, teaching kids to build and paint an army.
