The Rising Sun Games

The Rising Sun Games is a card and game store at 1299 E Fry Blvd, Suite D, in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Magic: The Gathering is its main game, and it also runs events for Riftbound, One Piece and a Cyberpunk card game. It suits players who want a steady run of prereleases, Commander nights and store championships, and anyone picking up sleeves and sealed product on the way in.

What's on the shelves

Magic: The Gathering is the game the store carries. Sealed product is part of the stock, including booster packs and a Usurp the Shadow Throne booster box at $100. Other card games turn up in the product mix: a My Little Pony card game booster box at $60, Grand Archive starter decks at $15 each and a Marvel Super Heroes beginner box at $30.

Accessories are a real part of the business. The store sells Dragon Shield sleeves in matte outer, matte dual and art versions, with dual-color packs at $16 and matte outer sleeves at $13. Sale prices on sleeves and booster packs rotate, and some products sell through and go out of stock.

Organized play and events

The calendar is busy and mixes several games. Magic: The Gathering is the backbone, with Regional Championship Qualifier events on multiple dates, including November 21, a Standard Store Championship Win A Box on October 25, and a Reality Fractured booster draft and Commander parties on October 2, October 9 and October 23. A Commander Buy a Box 2-Headed Giant event falls on October 24. The Reality Fracture prerelease ran as a full weekend in late September.

Riftbound players get their own events: a Radiance prerelease on October 16 and again on October 20, plus recurring open play and Nexus Nights. One Piece has a Store Championship Win-A-Box on November 1 and earlier color events. A Cyberpunk TCG beta release was held on October 17, and a recurring Standard Showdown runs on Wednesdays through the fall.

Magic: The Gathering All Leylines Eve is set for Friday, October 30, from 6 PM to 10 PM. Event entries can be registered for in advance.

The local scene
