The Game Collective, LLC

The Game Collective is a local game store at 2175 Woodville Road in Oregon, Ohio, selling trading cards, board games, comic books, figures and other collectibles. It carries Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon, and it runs late on weekends: the doors stay open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. It suits players who want a place to buy product and play, collectors who also read comics, and families.

What's on the shelves

Trading cards are the center of the store, with Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon both stocked. Sealed Magic product includes Marvel Super Heroes play booster displays and Commander decks. Riftbound: League of Legends TCG booster displays, from the Spiritforged and Vendetta sets, are also on the shelves. Singles and sports cards each have their own section.

Accessories fill out the card side: deck boxes in the five Magic colors, playmats and game mats in a wide run of artwork, and dice sets. Beyond cards, the store sells board games, role-playing games, puzzles, tarot, plushies, toys, apparel and video games. Comic books are a real part of the business, with current issues from Marvel, Valiant and other publishers at a few dollars each, along with backing boards for storing them.

A membership program is also sold at four price tiers, from a basic level up to a family level.

Events and learning

The store runs game nights, casual meetups and tournaments, and it hosts workshops on strategy and deck-building, including how to run a game night of your own. No fixed weekly schedule is set, and no organized-play program is confirmed, so the specifics of what is on any given night are learned in the store.

Store policies

Online orders are in-store pickup only. Orders must be collected within 24 hours, and a valid ID is needed at pickup; anything left longer goes back into stock and is refunded.

Returns follow a split rule. Unopened, unused non-TCG products can be returned within 30 days of purchase with a receipt, in original, resellable condition, and refunds go back to the original form of payment. All trading card products are final sale. That covers sealed boosters, boxes and decks, individual raw cards, and any opened collectible or card merchandise.

History

The store grew out of a small group of friends trading cards and rolling dice, and developed into a community of players, creators and families. It is owner-operated by a husband-and-wife team.
