About
The Card Shop is a sports card and Pokémon store at 4725 S 131st St #2 in Omaha, tucked just inside the north-facing entrance of the Western Bowl bowling alley. It sells singles, sealed product and value boxes, buys and appraises collections, and leans toward vintage baseball and football on the buying side. It suits collectors who want a shop with staff who know the hobby, and anyone with an older collection to sell.
The stock centers on sports cards, with Pokémon alongside. Beyond packs and boxes, the shop carries a solid selection of singles and sealed wax, plus value boxes for browsing on a budget. Pack and box prices run higher than online retail, a difference the shop puts down to buying volume and overhead.
Staff will talk through a purchase with newer collectors. One customer who came in for Pokémon for a niece, without knowing much about the current product, left with guidance on what to pick.
The shop buys cards and collections, with the strongest interest in baseball and football cards made before 1985. Cards produced between the mid-1980s and late 1990s are generally not bought, since those years were heavily mass produced and hold little to no value. A few key rookies from that stretch are the exception, including the 1993 and 1994 baseball rookies of Jeter and A-Rod and the 1991 and 1992 football rookies of Favre, and the shop will make an offer on those.
Collections can be appraised for $30 per hour. If the shop and the seller reach a deal, the appraisal cost is absorbed at no additional charge.
Price lookups on a card or two are done as a courtesy when the shop is not swamped, and customers in the store come first.
The shop recommends PSA for grading vintage cards, Beckett Grading Service for modern cards, and PSA/DNA for autograph and signature authentication.
The shop sits at 4725 South 131st Street, one block southeast of 132nd and L Streets, inside the north-facing Western Bowl entrance. First-timers can find it a little tricky to spot. The space is the former location of Sports Center Cards & Collectibles.
The shop closes for major holidays, including Memorial Day weekend (May 24 and 25) and the July 4th weekend (Friday and Saturday, July 3 and 4).
The owner also takes the shop on the road to the National Sports Collectors Convention. The 46th National runs July 29 to August 2, 2026 in Rosemont, IL, and the shop has Booth 281 on the main floor, close to Panini America. The booth brings sports cards, Pokémon and memorabilia, and buys and trades as a retailer: items are looked over for condition and offered on, not bought at full retail. During the 2025 National, buying of singles and collections at the shop paused until the owner returned, with the rest of the staff running the store.
The shop has also put on its own card shows in Omaha, including one on Sunday, June 23 at the Bel Air Banquet Room on West Center Road, running 10 AM to 3 PM with vendor setup from 9 AM.
Several other card and collectibles stores sit within a couple of miles: Sportscenter Cards & Collectibles, Omaha Sports Cards about half a mile away, Mail Order Comics about a mile, Local Makers Collective about 1.1 miles, and Game Central about 1.5 miles.
