Spitty’s Cards

Spitty's Cards is a small brick and mortar card shop at 524 Washington St in Brainerd, Minnesota, built around Pokémon. It is a new, owner-run store whose aim is a place where people of all ages can come in, hang out and have a good time, which makes it an easy fit for families and for collectors who prefer a low-key counter to a big-box floor.

What's on the shelves

Pokémon is the game the store carries. The inventory changes as stock comes in, and the owners welcome product suggestions from customers, so the selection is shaped partly by what regulars ask for. Online purchasing is planned for those who cannot come in person, but it is not available yet and has no start date.

Events

The store has taken prerelease signups for Pokémon's Delta Reign set, with a prerelease spot priced at $33. No recurring weekly events or confirmed organized-play programs are established yet, so the prerelease is the clearest sign of how the store approaches play.

The people behind the counter

The owners are a couple who lived in the same part of Minnesota their whole lives before moving up to Brainerd to start the shop. The owner grew up on Pokémon, video games and trading cards, and the store's welcoming, hang-out feel traces back to those habits. The household also includes a cat named Gus, named after a character from the TV show Psych.

Getting there

The shop sits at 524 Washington St, Brainerd, MN 56401, so it is worth confirming opening times before making a special trip.

The local scene

Spitty's Cards sits in a tight cluster of hobby stores in Brainerd. Sports Card Central, Northwoods Hobby Shop and Magic Lotus are each about 0.1 miles away, and Starfire Games and Dragon Forge Games are about 0.2 miles away. That makes the block an easy walk for anyone making an afternoon of card and game shopping, with Spitty's Cards covering the Pokémon side.
