Secret Castle Toys and Games

Secret Castle Toys and Games is a video game and trading card shop at 3020 E 4th St in Owensboro, Kentucky. Retro and modern game systems are the main draw, with a deep stock of Pokémon singles and a smaller Magic: The Gathering selection alongside. It suits collectors hunting older console games and anyone who wants to buy raw Pokémon cards sorted by set and condition.

What's on the shelves

Video games are the center of the store. It carries games, systems and accessories across Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and Sega, plus a long tail of other platforms: Atari, TurboGrafx, 3DO, CD-i, Evercade, WonderSwan and Neo Geo. Retro depth is a strength, with collections for the NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, PS1 and PS2, and separate sections for Japanese and PAL titles, strategy guides and Nintendo Power books. Graded games are sold too, along with mystery game bundles, including a $50 bundle built around a chosen console.

Pokémon is the larger of the two card games. The singles catalog runs to about 998 listings and reaches from the Wizards-era sets (Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, Neo Genesis, Skyridge) through the Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet eras to the newest Mega Evolution releases. Japanese Terastal Festival and Scarlet & Violet 151 cards are in the mix, along with promos, Trainer Gallery and Galarian Gallery cards. Magic: The Gathering is the smaller side, 287 singles that include Secret Lair drops, Commander cards and sets drawn from outside properties such as The Hobbit, Marvel and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Cards are graded by the standard condition scale, from Near Mint through Lightly Played, Moderately Played and Heavily Played down to Damaged. Most of the card stock is Near Mint. The store also sells its own merchandise, including bumper stickers and clothing, and gift cards.

Repairs

The store does repair work on games and hardware: save battery replacement, disc resurfacing and NES pin replacement. For anyone with a cartridge that no longer holds a save, that is a practical reason to come in.

Store policies

Games sold with cosmetic flaws carry a 90-day working guarantee. Items that arrive damaged or defective can be returned within 90 days. Returns must be unused and in original packaging with proof of purchase, and a return has to be requested before anything is sent back. Approved refunds go back to the original payment method within 10 business days. Sale items and gift cards cannot be returned, and restocking fees may apply to large, costly-to-ship items. Orders shipped within the US qualify for free shipping above $100.
