About
One Million Baseball Cards is a sports card shop in Manchester, Missouri, at 14560 Manchester Rd Ste 23. It opened in 1989 and is among the largest and oldest card shops in the St. Louis area. The store is built around singles in all four major sports, plus a long-running mail order business, which makes it a natural stop for collectors finishing sets or chasing individual players.
The core of the store is singles in baseball, football, hockey and basketball. The baseball selection runs wide: vintage singles, modern singles and top players, rookie cards, autographs and jersey cards. Unopened packs and boxes of modern issues are in stock for anyone who prefers to open their own.
Beyond cards, the store sells autographed memorabilia, vintage and replica pennants, bobbleheads and other sports memorabilia.
Pricing sits in the middle of the market: neither the cheapest nor the most expensive, with a wide range of current and older singles and commons at fair prices.
The singles inventory is cataloged by sport, and the lists are updated monthly. The baseball inventory is by far the deepest: it once ran past 60 typed pages with five columns per page, and the baseball lists cover years from 1933 to 2000. Football runs close to 30 pages, while hockey and basketball are about 15 pages each. Entries give the card number, player, quantity on hand, condition and price, so a collector working on a set, say 1975 Topps, can find exactly which numbers are available and in what grade. A separate listing of higher-numbered cards and standout players by sport leaves out the commons.
Mail order has been part of the business for roughly two decades, with more than 5,000 mail order customers. The store sells online through a searchable database with a shopping cart and secure checkout by credit card or PayPal. Orders can also be placed by phone during business hours, or by mailing a printed order form with a check or money order.
Shipping on phoned or mailed orders is priced by size:
| Order size | Shipping |
|---|---|
| 1 to 4 cards | $1.00, uninsured, in a secure envelope |
| 1 to 25 cards | $3.00, uninsured, in a bubble mailer |
| 26 to 50 cards | $4.00, uninsured |
| More than 50 cards | $6.00, Priority Mail |
UPS shipping is a flat $9.00 regardless of weight or value.
Insurance is optional: $2.50 up to $100, $3.50 for $101 to $200, $5.00 for $201 to $300, and free above $300. Uninsured orders that are lost, stolen or damaged are not replaced or refunded, though fewer than 10 orders have gone missing or arrived damaged in 20 years of mail order.
The store accepts cash, money orders, checks, PayPal, and Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.
Monday through Friday hours are 11 AM to 6 PM, Saturday is 10 AM to 5 PM, and the store is closed Sunday. The shop sits in Suite 23 at 14560 Manchester Rd in Manchester.
