Muse Comics & Games

Muse Comics & Games is a comic shop and game store at 1940 Harve Ave in Missoula, Montana, and the longest-running store of its kind in the city. It is built around two things: a deep comics wall and a Game Room where wargaming and board gaming happen at the tables. Magic: The Gathering, Disney Lorcana, One Piece Card Game and Pokémon all get regular play, so it suits players of several card games as much as comics readers.

What's on the shelves

Comics are the core of the stock: single issues, trade paperbacks, graphic novels and hardcovers, running from Golden Age classics to current indie titles, with new releases arriving every Wednesday. Collectables of all kinds sit alongside them.

On the game side, the store carries Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon, and board games from Catan to Munchkin. Anything not on the shelf can be ordered in. For miniatures, it sells Warhammer 40,000, Reaper and Pathfinder figures along with paints, brushes and other modeling supplies.

Weekly play

The calendar is busy, and most of it is free or close to it. Magic fills the most slots, with Lorcana, Riftbound, Pokémon and One Piece each holding a regular day.

Several of these have particulars worth knowing before you go.

Magic, Lorcana and the rest

Magic events require a registered Wizards of the Coast account and the Companion App on your phone, installed and charged before you arrive. Event codes are handed out at the front counter. Commander players who register the event code through the app play free; others pay a $2 venue fee. Modern runs three to five Swiss rounds of 50 minutes each, best of three games, with entry fees pooled into prizes: the first-place player at eight or more entrants takes half the pool and a promo pack. Proxy cards of any form are not allowed at Magic events, and the store enforces that without exceptions.

The Lorcana Play League is a casual free-play format that runs through late December 2026. Two random participants win play promo cards each week, and on the third Saturday of each month a free tournament awards promo items such as limited-edition pins to the top two players. League point leaders at the end of the season also win pins. Decks need at least 60 cards, with up to four copies of any one card.

Riftbound, the League of Legends card game, has a free weekly Nexus Night, and the Pokémon club is a place to sharpen your skills and meet other players from the local community. Special events round out the calendar, including a Cyberpunk TCG pre-release on October 31, 2026, and a Magic Star Trek prerelease on November 6, 2026, followed by a 2-Headed-Giant Star Trek prerelease on November 7 at 1 PM.

Wargaming and the Game Room

The Sunday Warhammer meet-up is open to any miniature game, including Boarding Action, 40K, Age of Sigmar and War Cry. Two tables with painted terrain are free to use on a first-come basis, and the store provides materials for building and painting its own terrain. Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer 40K clubs, a comic book club, FCBD and book signings are all part of the store's yearly rhythm.

Hours and getting there

The store sits at 1940 Harve Ave, Missoula, MT 59801.

History

Muse is marking its 30th year, and a Riftbound booster box discount was run to celebrate the milestone. The store operates two locations: this Missoula shop and a sister store, The Splash Page, in Billings, Montana.

The local scene

Missoula has several game and card shops within a short drive of Muse. World Games Of Montana is about 0.4 miles away, Fantasy Games Inc about 0.7 miles, and Retrofix Games about 0.8 miles. Muse Kids Comic Books Shop and Zootown Sports Cards are each about a mile out, so a card-focused afternoon can easily cover more than one stop.
