Main Street Games

Main Street Games is a general game store at 705 Main St in Winfield, Kansas, serving Cowley County. It carries new and used video games, board games, card games and tabletop games, with Magic: The Gathering and the One Piece Card Game among its trading card lines. The store runs on a community-and-family footing, and it suits collectors who also want a place to play, a shelf of retro consoles to dig through, or someone who can repair the hardware.

What's on the shelves

Video games make up a large share of the stock, both modern and retro, including older consoles, accessories and adapters. On the card side, the store carries Magic: The Gathering, the One Piece Card Game and Riftbound. Dungeons and Dragons products and dice sit alongside a range of board games.

The store also stocks 1/24th scale slot car track and has a slot car drag racing strip in the shop.

The store buys and trades old video games and Magic: The Gathering cards, so a collection can be turned into store purchases or cash.

A place to play

The shop has space where customers can sit down and play games with friends and meet new people. Regulars describe a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers to Magic in particular. No weekly events or organized-play programs are confirmed for the store.

Repairs and other services

Beyond games, the store handles a good deal of technical work. It does console repair and controller stick drift repair, including a Hall Effect joystick upgrade for console controllers, with pricing that depends on the type of controller. HDMI port replacement starts at $125.

In March 2022 the owners purchased McDonald's Computer Service, which added computer repair, virus protection and removal software, and new and used computers and accessories. Computer service hours run Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM; outside those hours, other staff can take in a computer or accept payment.

Custom 3D printing is available on request.

Hours

The store is on Main Street in downtown Winfield. It has occasionally closed on a Saturday, so a call ahead is sensible for a long drive.

The main floor opens two hours later on Wednesday and Thursday than on Friday and Saturday.

History

The store opened in October of 2015, the realization of the owner's plan to bring a dedicated game store to Winfield. It has since grown into a gaming hub for Cowley County, and the 2022 computer service purchase widened what it offers well beyond the shelf of games.
