MAD Bros. Games & Hobbies

MAD Bros. Games & Hobbies is a game and hobby shop at 139 W High Ave in New Philadelphia, Ohio, open every day of the week. It has served the area since 2013 and works as a general gaming shop rather than a pure card store: Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! share the floor with board games, miniatures, role-playing games and paint. It suits families, casual players and anyone who wants room to sit down and play.

What's on the shelves

The card side of the store covers Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon, with playmats and sleeves stocked alongside the cards. Beyond the card games, the shop carries a broad run of tabletop product:

• Board games, including a top-list selection
• Dice
• Role-playing games and Dungeons & Dragons
• Miniatures games such as War Machine and Hordes, and X-Wing and Armada
• Paint and hobby supplies

The owners aim to keep the newest board games, collectible card games, role-playing games and tabletop miniatures on hand, which makes the store a one-stop shop for a household with more than one kind of player in it.

Events and play space

The store runs a mix of casual learn-to-play events and weekly competitive tournaments, so a newcomer has an easy way in and a regular has something to work toward. The space itself is a big part of the draw: more than 3,600 square feet with open tables, enough room for several games to run at once without crowding.

Store atmosphere

The shop is run as a safe, family-friendly space, and it grew out of a particular idea. Two brothers who were raised on family game nights opened it to give other families a place to build the same kind of memories. The brothers still work the counter and handle the behind-the-scenes running of the store.

Hours and getting there

The store keeps the same schedule all week.

Street parking is available at the shop.

History

MAD Bros. Games & Hobbies opened its doors to the community on September 13, 2013. It has stayed in business as a locally owned shop for more than a decade, built around the two founding brothers rather than a chain model.
