Heroes & Horrors Games

Heroes & Horrors Games is a game and comic shop at 1215 Main St Unit B in Windsor, Colorado, open since 2015. It carries four collectible card games alongside role-playing games, miniatures, comics and manga, which makes it a stop for players who want more than one hobby under a single roof. Its stock of Magic: The Gathering singles ranks among the larger ones in Northern Colorado.

What's on the shelves

The card side covers Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and the One Piece Card Game. Magic singles are the store's particular strength, with one of the largest collections for sale in the region.

Beyond cards, the shop sells role-playing games including Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Shadowrun, plus miniatures for Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar. Board and card games for all ages fill out the rest of the game stock, and collectible figures are on the shelves too.

Comics, manga and books

Comics are a second pillar of the business. The store stocks current issues from DC, Marvel, Darkhorse, Image and IDW, along with releases from almost 25 independent publishers. New issues arrive on Wednesdays. Back issues in the store go back about one year, and the staff will try to order older ones for customers.

Readers can set up a subscription: the store holds each title on a pull list and calls when new issues arrive, or customers can simply stop by and check. Trade paperbacks, manga and graphic novels are stocked as well, and parents should check the maturity level of comics, manga and graphic novels before buying. Used science fiction and fantasy books are sold, and the store runs a used book trade-in policy.

The game room

The game room seats 16 and holds a library of more than 160 card and board games, so groups can try something new without buying it first. At the moment the room is available by reservation only: Tuesday through Thursday from 2 PM to 9 PM and Friday from 2 PM to 6 PM. Those windows can change as new groups form or existing ones shift days, so a call before planning a night is sensible.
