Genesis Comics And Games

Genesis Comics And Games is a comics and trading card shop at 600-26 Portion Rd in Ronkonkoma, New York, on the Lake Ronkonkoma side of town. It was founded on a love of comics and community, and it has grown into a gathering place for readers, role-players and card players. It suits Magic: The Gathering players hunting for singles, Pokémon and Lorcana collectors, and anyone who keeps a comic pull list.

What's on the shelves

The Ronkonkoma shop carries Magic: The Gathering singles and sealed product, Pokémon singles and sealed product, Disney Lorcana products and Dungeons & Dragons books. Staff there help customers build a collection or get into playing the games.

Singles are available for Magic: The Gathering, Disney Lorcana and Pokémon only. Sports cards and comic books are stocked at the owners' second shop in Patchogue, where staff can track down specific comics and add customers to pull lists.

How singles requests work

Magic singles are a stated priority for the store, and it runs a deck list service for them. Customers send in a list of the cards they want, and the lists are pulled in the order they are received. A buyer is emailed once a list has been pulled.

The rules are specific:

• Lists brought in person that run past 5 cards do not jump the queue.
• A customer can name a version of a card, or a price ceiling to stay under, but a named version is the only version pulled.
• If staff have to put back more than half of the pulled cards, not counting alternates, that customer can no longer have lists pulled in the future.

The last rule exists because pulling a long list costs staff real time, so it pays to submit a list you intend to buy.

Events

The store keeps a calendar of events and hosts organized gatherings around its games, though no fixed weekly schedule is confirmed here. Dungeons & Dragons, Magic and Pokémon are all part of the store's identity, so it is worth asking staff what is running before you plan a visit around play.
