About
Games King is a trading card and hobby store at 823 Gordon Dr in Sioux City, open every day from 11 AM to 9 PM. It carries singles and sealed product for seven card games, and the weekly calendar centers on Pokémon, with a free casual league on Sundays and a $10 tournament on Fridays. It suits Pokémon and Magic players looking for regular local play, and sellers with a collection of mainstream cards to move.
Trading card games are the core of the stock: Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Disney Lorcana, Flesh and Blood, the Digimon Card Game and the Dragon Ball Super Card Game. Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Lorcana singles are stocked, and Magic singles are sold by condition, from Near Mint through Lightly Played, Moderately Played and Heavily Played to Damaged. Sealed Pokémon and Magic product is on hand, along with pre-constructed decks for both games.
The store reaches well past cards. It also stocks board games, roleplaying games (Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Starfinder and Cypher System among them), miniatures and the paints and terrain that go with them, dice, toys and collectables, and model kits including Gunpla. Card accessories cover albums and portfolios, sleeves, deck boxes, playmats and storage.
| Day | Time | Game | Format | Entry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Noon | Pokémon | League night | Free |
| Wednesday | 6 PM | Dungeons and Dragons | Locals | Free |
| Friday | 6 PM | Pokémon | Weekly tournament | $10 |
The Sunday league is open to every skill level and does not track wins and losses, which makes it the easy entry point for newer players.
The Friday tournament is a Standard-format Pokémon event that pays out a pack per win. Players who take part in the weekly Pokémon events get priority entry to the store's Pokémon prerelease events, which run on an application basis.
The store runs learn-to-play sessions for Pokémon on request. It also hosts a free beginner Dungeons and Dragons series at the Aalfs Downtown Library, 529 Pierce Street, for ages 12 and up at any experience level. An experienced Dungeon Master runs a short one-shot and the store supplies everything needed to play.
Games King buys Magic and Pokémon cards. Commons and uncommons worth under $3 are bought at 1000 cards for $3 in cash or $5 in store credit. Cards worth more than $3 are bought at 40% of value in cash or 60% in store credit.
Sellers must be 18 or older, or come with a parent or guardian, and show a valid government ID. Collections worth over $300 should be scheduled by appointment. Foreign-language and graded cards are not being bought, because the store's pricing system cannot price them. The store may decline a collection for poor condition, duplication of stock, counterfeit or theft concerns, or low-value bulk, and cards hit by a banlist announcement are hard to price until the market settles.
Purchases can be returned within 14 days of receipt if the items are unused, in original packaging and accompanied by the receipt. Sale items and gift cards cannot be returned. The store accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal and Google Wallet.
