Game Masters

Game Masters is a family-owned game store at 398 Perry Hwy in Pittsburgh, in the North Hills, with more than 28 years behind it. It carries collectible card games alongside board games, tabletop role-playing games and miniatures, and a cafe sits inside the store. It suits players who want a table and a regular night to show up for, and families or newcomers who want room to sit, learn and play.

What's on the shelves

The store carries Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece Card Game, Disney Lorcana, Flesh and Blood and Star Wars: Unlimited. Gundam and Riftbound also have regular play nights, and Warhammer 40k arrived in late September 2026. Beyond cards, the store stocks racks of board games, a role-playing games section, miniatures and maps.

A game library of more than 1000 games is available to anyone paying the table space fee. The fee is five dollars per person, and players can use the library or bring their own game.

Weekly play

The Friday Magic night is a booster draft for up to eight players, with basic lands provided, so no collection is needed and new players are welcome.

Organized play and events

Pokémon runs open play and a weekly league. A League Cup, a quarterly tournament one step above the monthly League Challenge, is part of the Pokémon program. A Pokémon Delta Reign prerelease and a Pokéween event are on the calendar for Halloween weekend.

The rest of the calendar leans toward variety. Riftbound runs weekly and monthly events, Gundam has casual play on Tuesdays, and Commander nights are held on Wednesdays. KeyForge has biweekly sealed play at $20, which includes a sealed deck and the table fee. Board gaming days fall on Tuesday and Saturday.

Role-players are well served too. A D&D Adventurers League runs every other Thursday evening, and a Halloween D&D one-shot using Ravenloft playbooks is set for October 30, 2026. Pathfinder, Daggerheart, Frosthaven, Savage Worlds and Blood on the Clocktower groups meet through the week.

How the store runs

Space is available even without a table request, so players can call or drop in and ask. Tables are first-come, first-served, with a separate Tavern Table.

The building is ADA compliant, with ramps to the lower gaming area. It has a family bathroom with a changing table and a quiet, low-stimulation room. A 65-inch TV is available for playing on a virtual table top.

Dragon's Roast Cafe

The in-store cafe serves coffee, tea, donuts, cupcakes and muffins, opening at 7 AM. Donuts from a local maker are on offer Monday through Saturday.

Hours and getting there

Short visits and handicap parking are up front, while longer visits such as active play sessions should park along the side of the building or on Center Ave. Construction at the front of the building is under way as of early October 2026, so the side lot or the center lane parking area on Center Ave is the way to go.

History

The store has operated for more than 28 years in the North Hills and is family owned and operated. It has since moved to a newer, larger space with room for more play areas, and it received a Best of Pittsburgh award in 2015.
