Game Haven Sandy

Game Haven Sandy is a game store at 9860 S 700 E #1 in Sandy, Utah, and the largest location in the Game Haven group. It pairs a full trading card stock with board games, miniatures, puzzles and role-playing games, and it puts a coffee shop and private game rooms under the same roof. The store has run for 14 years, which makes it a settled place to play, and it suits players who want to stay a while.

What's on the shelves

The card side covers Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece Card Game, Disney Lorcana, Flesh and Blood, Digimon Card Game, Star Wars: Unlimited and Weiss Schwarz. The store also stocks Gundam, Union Arena, Vanguard, Sorcery, SolForge, Altered, Battle Spirits Saga, Cookierun and NeoPets, and sealed product is sorted game by game, with preorders handled for both card games and accessories. Singles sit alongside more than 15,000 trading cards in all.

Around the cards, the range is wide. Board games and puzzles run to thousands of titles, with card games, dice games and tile games among them. Accessories include binders, deck boxes, standard and Japanese sleeves and storage solutions. Dice, painting supplies, toys and plush fill out the rest.

Tabletop players are covered too. Role-playing books span D&D in 5th Edition and 5E-compatible lines, Pathfinder 2nd Edition, Starfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Genesys and Star Wars. War game miniatures include Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar, Star Wars: Legion, Marvel: Crisis Protocol, Heroclix, Heroscape, GODTEAR and Cyberpunk RED. Citadel and D&D Prismatic paints are on hand for painters.

If something isn't on the shelf, the staff will try to order it in for the customer.

Play and events

Games are played at the store seven days a week. The regular program includes Magic: The Gathering tournaments, Lorcana Leagues, Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments, Pokémon League, D&D Adventurer's League and Star Wars Legion events. The store also hosts mini conventions, including its own MINICon, and a Magic prerelease weekend was set for September 25 to 27.

Private game rooms can be rented for groups that want a table to themselves.

The coffee shop

A full Battle Grounds Coffee shop operates inside the store. That is a real convenience for long tournament days and RPG sessions, and it sets this location apart from the smaller Game Haven stores.
