Epic Adventure Games

Epic Adventure Games is a full-service game store at 222 Mt Hermon Rd Ste A in Scotts Valley, California, with a large dedicated play area and a stock that covers board games, role-playing games, miniature games and card games. Magic: The Gathering is the center of the store's calendar, with Magic played most days of the week alongside a Blood Bowl league and Dungeons & Dragons groups. The shop has been in business for over 15 years, and it suits new players looking for a casual, friendly place to learn as well as regulars who want a weekly game.

What's on the shelves

The store carries board games, role-playing games, miniature games and card games, with a deep Magic: The Gathering collection and card singles. For people who want to try before they buy, staff give a demonstration of a game. When a demo copy is on hand and there is time, they teach it at the table; otherwise the gameplay is explained so the customer can decide.

Miniature gamers get extra service. The store gives painting and terrain-making lessons for groups and for individuals, and it offers a painting service for customers who want to play with miniatures without painting them.

Weekly play

The schedule runs every day of the week, and Magic fills most of it.

On Mondays, Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft Fireside Gatherings meet at 5 PM every other week for casual play, open to all skill levels.

Prereleases and special events

The store hosts Magic prerelease events for new sets, including a Secrets of Strixhaven prerelease on April 24, 2026. Private parties can be booked in the play area for groups who want to celebrate over games.

Store policies and specials

House rules are short and lightly humorous: keep your voice down, clean up your trash, keep track of your belongings, play fair and be a good sport win or lose. No food or drink is allowed on the miniature tables, and shirts and shoes are required. Cursing costs a quarter.

A monthly Thank You Raffle awards store credit to three winners: $20 for first place, $10 for second and $5 for third. A ticket is earned for each $30 spent in a single purchase, and tickets are drawn on the first of the month. Gift certificates, tournament entries and other non-product purchases do not earn tickets, nor do purchases made with store credit. Winners have to come into the store to find out whether they won, and winning tickets can be claimed through the last day of the month they are drawn.

A standing special puts 100 Magic cards in a bundle for $2.00 while supply lasts, a handy way to build up a draft or Commander pile. The store also accepts Reading Dollars from the Santa Cruz Public Library summer reading program, and it supports the Santa Cruz library system.
