About
Double Dane Games is a tabletop game and hobby store in the Central Square Mall in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, at 201 NW 4th St, Suite 129. It is locally owned and operated, and it covers a lot of ground: board games, card games, dice games, role playing games, miniatures and hobby supplies. For card players, the draw is Friday Night Magic. The store suits families, newcomers to tabletop gaming and regulars who want a table and a game to sit down at.
The core of the stock is tabletop games: heavy strategy titles for serious gamers, family board games and casual card games. The store also carries role playing games, and Dungeons & Dragons has its own section of the store's offerings. A rotating run of discounted board games is kept on sale.
Accessories cover the usual needs of a card player: dice, card sleeves, dice bags and playmats. On the hobby side, the store stocks high-detail fantasy miniatures, miniature paints, sealers and brushes, plus the full Woodland Scenics line of terrain creation and basing supplies.
Magic: The Gathering is the one card game the store builds events around, and Magic products are part of the stock.
Every Friday night the store hosts a gathering for Magic: The Gathering players. The format is split two ways. There is an organized tournament, run in a range of formats, for players who want some friendly competition and a shot at prizes. Alongside it, casual pick-up games keep going for anyone who would rather just play.
Formats that come up at the store include Standard, Draft, Modern, Two-Headed Giant, Commander and Pioneer. The night is open to every skill level, from players who have only played at home with friends to long-time tournament regulars. Anyone planning to enter an official Magic tournament needs a Wizards account, which provides the DCI player ID number used for sanctioned play.
Gaming tables are set up in the store, and customers are welcome to drop in and play a round or two of their own games. The gaming area also has free demo games to try before buying, which helps when choosing a first board game. Beverages and snacks are available.
Orders placed online can be picked up at the store during regular business hours by choosing local pickup at checkout. The store ships by USPS to addresses across the United States, and all online payments run through PayPal, though no PayPal account is needed and major credit and debit cards are accepted. Minnesota orders carry 6.875% state sales tax.
Returns are accepted within 30 days of receipt for items that are unopened and in their original packaging. A $3.00 service charge applies to every return, and the customer pays return shipping.
