About
Comic Quest is a long-running comic and game store on the north side of Evansville, Indiana, at 8401 N Kentucky Ave, off Highway 41 behind the McDonald's on Mt Pleasant Rd and next to Triangle. It started as a comic book shop and now covers comics, back issues, graphic novels, manga, toys, posters, board games and card games. For card players, the draw is a steady run of Magic: The Gathering nights Wednesday through Friday and a Pokémon League that meets on Fridays.
The core of the store is still comics and back issues, with action figures, statues, movies, books, posters, model kits, graphic novels and board games alongside. The card games carried are Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering. Special orders are welcome, and the staff is on hand to answer questions.
Magic nights run three days a week, and the formats differ from night to night.
| Day | Time | Game | Format | Entry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wednesday | 5 PM | Magic: The Gathering | Sealed booster draft | $10 |
| Thursday | 6 PM | Magic: The Gathering | Commander | Free |
| Friday | 6 PM | Magic: The Gathering | Friday Night Magic, Commander | Free |
Wednesday's draft starts at 5 PM so the three Swiss rounds finish before the store closes.
Each Wednesday player drafts from three packs, and one pack goes into the prize pool for the winners. Prizes go by standings with no top cut.
Thursday Commander gives every participant a free promo card, which may come from past Friday Night Magic events, Game Days, prereleases or other events. Friday is a sanctioned Friday Night Magic event: players are split into pods of three or four, each pod plays down to one winner, and the pod winners meet to decide the overall winner. The winners take a Friday Night Magic promo, and there is no other prize. Both Commander nights are sanctioned, so the banned list is enforced and proxies are not allowed.
The store runs an Official Pokémon League and describes the draw as the largest in a 100-mile radius. Players of all ages meet on Fridays for open play and trading alongside structured tournament play, with frequent chances to win free cards, patches, pins and other Pokémon merchandise. Newcomers get help learning the rules, basic deck building and strategy, and someone is always on hand to teach.
Pokémon sealed booster draft tournaments cost $10 to enter, with sign-up from 5 to 5:55 PM and a 6 PM start. Each player receives three booster packs to draft with, one pack goes into the prize pool, and the store provides the energy. Play is Swiss rounds, with the number of rounds set by turnout. Decks are 40 cards, and entrants may add up to four copies each of a short list of trainer cards. Rare cards such as Rare Candy or VS Seeker are not allowed.

Comic Quest opened more than 34 years ago as a comic shop for serious collectors and casual readers put off by the high prices at other comic stores. Over the years it added board games, card games, manga, toys and posters. The store is owned and staffed by comic collectors, readers and board gamers.
