Comic Coffeehouse

Comic Coffeehouse is an independent comics shop and coffee bar in Olathe, Kansas, at 1857 S Ridgeview Rd in the Village Centre shopping center near 151st and Ridgeview. It pairs a coffee counter with shelves of comics, and it has recently added a small selection of trading cards, collectibles and gaming accessories. It suits a reader who wants a drink and an afternoon with a stack of small-press books more than a player looking for a full tournament room.

What's on the shelves

Comics are the core of the store, with an emphasis on independent artists, small press publishers and underground storytellers rather than the big-publisher output found at big-box shops. Readers building a pull list, hunting for a first issue or flipping through variant covers will find that mix here.

Trading cards, collectibles and gaming accessories arrived more recently, and the selection is limited. Treat it as a few things worth browsing rather than a deep wall of singles or sealed product.

Coffee

The coffee side of the business is as much the point as the comics. The store serves coffee and pour-overs, made with beans from a local roaster, and the layout is meant for sitting down with a drink and a book.

Hours and getting there

The store is open Tuesday through Saturday and closed Sundays and Mondays. Weekday hours start early, which makes it an easy stop before work.

The address is 1857 S Ridgeview Rd, Olathe, KS 66062, at the corner of 151st and Ridgeview.

History

Comic Coffeehouse opened in 2022 and was started by a couple, Michael and Vania, who combined his love of pop culture with her love of coffee and a shared interest in supporting small businesses. They buy locally wherever they can: the coffee comes from a local roaster, and most of the comics and other retail items are purchased from individuals and businesses in the Kansas City metro.
