About
Casablanca Comics is a comic book shop that has been open since 1987, known for new and vintage comics, graphic novels and one of the deeper back-issue collections in the region. It is at 778 Roosevelt Trl in Windham, Maine, and is open noon to 6 PM every day of the week. It suits readers who want a knowledgeable counter, collectors hunting older issues and complete runs, and anyone with a collection to sell.
The store specializes in new and vintage comic books and graphic novels. Trade paperbacks and graphic novels from Dark Horse, DC Comics, Image Comics, Marvel Comics and other publishers fill the new-book side, with vintage and out-of-print graphic novels alongside them. Back issues are the store's long suit: the stock includes key vintage issues, vintage complete sets and runs, and CGC graded comics, and it is always changing because new collections keep coming in.
Beyond comics, the store carries trading cards and card supplies, dice, games, magazines, books, toys and models, novelties, apparel and wall art. A weekly pull list service reserves new releases for regular readers, and reserved comics are held for one week. Weekly final order cutoff pre-orders are available too, and gift cards are sold. Shipping is a flat $7.00 per order, and orders of $25.00 or more ship free.
The store is an active buyer, taking individual issues or entire collections without cherry-picking only the good books. The owners spent more than $250,000 buying comic books in the past year. The shop looks first for superhero comics published before 1980, especially from Marvel and DC, along with most comics from before 1965 and golden age books from 1955 and earlier. Condition is the deciding factor.
Some things are not bought: coverless comics, comics with mold, mildew or smoke smell, pornographic comics, comic trading cards, and most 1990s comics outside of bulk purchases. A bulk purchase is a flat price for a box or collection, and most of it goes to sales and promotions rather than regular stock. Because the store already holds deep inventory of post-1980 books, offers there are less certain, and an offer is not made on every collection.
Sellers should call or email before bringing books in. Purchases are made by the owner, usually by appointment, and no buying happens on Wednesdays or weekends without one arranged in advance. Evaluations are done in person rather than over the phone, though a list or photos help. The store will travel for large or significant collections. Original comic art, pulp magazines, fanzines and vintage comic-related collectibles are also wanted.
Returns are accepted within 30 days, with a receipt or proof of purchase, for items in the condition they were received. All one dollar comic books and other sale items are final sale. Exchanges are for defective or damaged items.

The store opened in 1987 in a former barber shop of about 150 square feet, with the barber's sink still just inside the door. The owners plan to celebrate 40 years in business in 2027. The shop created and hosted the Maine Comics Arts Festival and the Portland Comic Expo from 2009 to 2019, and the owner has been nationally recognized for excellence in retailing. Past in-store events have included creator appearances, back issue collection launches and themed baking, from strawberry shortcake on the Fourth of July to zombies and zucchini bread for Walking Dead #100.
