Black Diamond Games

Black Diamond Games is a tabletop and hobby gaming store at 1950 Market Street, Suite E, in Concord, California. It works as a neighborhood game shop for local players, with a stock that reaches across board games, miniatures, role-playing, Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon. For a collector or player in the East Bay, it is a place to browse, find a game night, and meet other regulars.

What's on the shelves

Pokémon is the card game confirmed for the store, and the shop supports several other hobby lines alongside it. Its player groups are organized by interest: board games, a living card game group, Magic: The Gathering, miniatures, Pokémon, role-playing and Warhammer. That list is a fair map of what the store caters to, since each group corresponds to a part of the shop's audience.

The full inventory is sold by mail order, and mail-order shoppers get deals not available in the shop itself. That includes a clearance section where new items are added each week. Orders ship within the United States only, and are processed within 2 to 3 business days, with no shipping or delivery on weekends or holidays.

Events and game nights

The store hosts regular game nights. A visitor who attended one in October 2021 came away describing a friendly, chatty group of players willing to teach newcomers, with Dungeons & Dragons being played at the tables. Specific nights, start times and entry fees are not fixed in a weekly schedule, so the local Pokémon group is where day-to-day news on card play lands. Membership in those groups is limited to local customers.

The store also welcomes anyone who wants to volunteer to run an event, which makes it a reasonable fit for an organizer with a format or a game they want to introduce.

Store policies

Mail-order purchases can be returned within 30 days of purchase, provided the item is unused, in its original packaging and accompanied by a receipt or proof of purchase. Collectible products, gift certificates, paint and adhesives, and ding and dent or clearance items cannot be returned. Opened board games and similar items qualify only for partial refunds, and sale items are not refunded. Exchanges are made only for items that are defective or damaged. The customer pays return shipping, and that cost is deducted from any refund.
