B and J comics

B and J Comics Etc. is a family-run comic and collectibles shop at 346 Main St in downtown Wilton, Maine, across from the Wilton Library and the hardware store. It started selling comics in 1998 and carries trading cards alongside a deep back-issue stock, so it suits collectors who want to dig through boxes as much as those after Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering or sports cards.

What's on the shelves

Comics are the core. More than 25,000 of them fill the racks and long boxes, with new releases, back issues, graphic novels, collected editions and graded slabs. Trading cards sit beside them: Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, sports cards and non-sports cards. The rest of the inventory covers toys, figures and other pop culture collectibles, plus handmade work from local creators, including resin art, crochet pieces and 3D-printed figures.

The store also buys. It takes in comic collections from modern to vintage, trading card collections (sports, Pokémon, Magic and more), and toys and other collectibles. Collections can be brought to the shop, or the owners can be called or sent photos and details by email. Finder's fees are paid for leads that turn into real buys.

Store policies

Discounts are straightforward and apply automatically. Older books earn 20% off when a purchase of them comes to $10 or more; new releases are not discounted. Orders made up only of slabs earn 10% off when they total $100 or more. New releases ordered ahead are 10% off, updated every Monday, and can be picked up in the store for free or delivered to the home.

Returns must be requested within 72 hours of delivery or pickup, a window that reflects how much condition matters with collectibles.

Hours and getting there

Hours shift seasonally and around the owners' show schedule, and the shop is likely closed on holidays or when roads are bad.

The store sits on Main Street in downtown Wilton, easy to spot opposite the library.

History

Billy and Jennie Parker began selling comics in 1998 and now run the shop with their daughter. The business grew out of selling at fairs and flea markets before it settled into a permanent storefront on Main Street. The family still sets up at fairs and shows around Maine and New England, in places such as Farmington, Acton, Auburn and Bangor, and still goes hunting for good collections to bring back to the shelves.
