Alterniverse Comics

Alterniverse Comics is a comics, toys and games shop in Hyde Park, New York, with Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering as its two trading card games. It suits a local player looking for a weekly Pokémon league, a collector who wants to look over graded comic books in person, or anyone who likes one counter that covers comics, toys and cards.

What's on the shelves

Comics, toys and games make up the stock, and the store carries both Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering. Certified and graded CGC comic books are also for sale, and they can only be viewed in the store for now.

Weekly play

Sunday league is the store's standing Pokémon event, and the store plans to keep hosting it.

Organized play and events

Pokémon events at the store have included prerelease tournaments and league challenges. The Pokémon Mega Evolution Pitch Black prerelease is set for 12:30 PM on July 5, 2026.

Magic: The Gathering has its own run of release and prerelease tournaments, which have usually started at 6:30 PM and have asked players to register ahead because seating is limited. Marvel Super Heroes arrives in Magic: The Gathering at the store on June 19, 2026.

The store also joins in Free Comic Book Day, and its 2026 observance fell on April 26. Past events have included a signing for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic with an exclusive cover and a creator signing for several independent titles.

Hours and getting there

The store is open every day, with the same hours all week, and sometimes stays open later for special tournaments.

The shop is in a plaza on Route 9G in Hyde Park, next to Hung Far Restaurant and Nana's Ice Cream & Grill, which makes it easy to pair with a meal before or after a league night.
